“I said: what about my eyes.
He said: Keep them on the road.
I said: What about my passion?
He said: Keep it burning.
I said: What about my heart?
He said: Tell me what you hold inside it?
I said: Pain and sorrow.
He said: Stay with it. The wound is the place where the Light enters you.”
Rumi (Jalal ad-Din Muhammad ar-Rumi)
Over the years, I have occasionally been asked by sceptics “how come you get ill given your abilities?” I’m sure I must have returned a polite joke and cut the conversation there. I don’t quite remember my answer as much as I recall how pointing the question felt.
Being a Healer is a blessed path to take, but still hardly understood by most people. So please let me try to explain very quickly:
To wish to help others heal, you must have gone through a fair amount of pain yourself. Gone through it, suffered it, cried it, cursed it, analysed it, accepted it, and assumed that healing is a lifelong process. We are in a permanent state of impermanence. That’s how we evolve.
There is a known path in every Healer’s life. Without fail, the go through particularly traumatic events. These seem to be the catalyst. After trauma, two phases follow: first self-annihilation, which happens when the person does not have the emotional and spiritual self-awareness necessary to process and overcome trauma, nor the external help they need, and it translates in different types of emotional and physical illnesses and disorders. The second usually happens after a stint in the previous stage. Overcoming that period is highly enlightening, as it provokes a true growth spurt of our spiritual self. Also, heightened psychic abilities are present in a Healer’s life from birth, but trauma has an undeniable way of further opening them.
Said Light gives the healer the gift of profound empathy. Empathy (that is, Love), is the one key element here. We need empathy to feel the need to assist others. And we need the experience of having hurt ourselves to empathise with a fellow being in pain.
Also, it’s worth noting that this call to be of service may need many lifetimes to develop, Rome wasn’t built in one day and neither have we.
Being a Healer is not a personal power. A healer is a channel, a healer goes through a process where both the reception of information and incoming Healing Light (information codes) and the outwardly directed intention happen simultaneously.
A Healer doesn’t work alone: there is a team in Spirit working closely and making it possible. Actually, I believe that they should take most of the credit!
So, the answer that I should have given then is quite simple: Spiritual Healers do get ill, yes, they can self-heal certain things, some we seek out the help of peers and, if we suffer from major trauma, we go the allopathic doctors who, as of today, are the ones capable of putting a body back together after a car crash, for instance. And we need Healing permanently, I would say even more so that others, as our own energetic field is in frequent intense connection with others’, whether in this realm or on the other side of the veil. We need to have an energetic and Spiritual selfcare routine, along with brushing our teeth or having that first morning glass of water.
So, if you are ready and set to become a Spiritual Healer, embrace it without delay, immerse yourself in the learning, practicing with a mentor, actively working on your healing, both self and the one given to you by expert in the field.
And always remember, that through the cracks in your Heart, enters the Light.
